The swimming pool service contractors from Seahorse Pools & Spas in Fort Worth, Texas get asked all the time, why do pools need chemicals? The answer is simple… because if you don’t you could be swimming in an unhealthy bath of bacteria and algae spores. Yuck.
You wouldn’t want to swim in dirty bath water would you? You don’t want to swim in a lake or an ocean or other body of water that is stagnant or that has algae or other floating gunk. Would you wash your dishes in dirty water and eat off them? If you answered no to any of those, then you don’t want to swim in a pool that doesn’t have clean water.
Why do pools need chemicals?
Most everyone knows that water cleanliness is achieved through the use of chemicals including chlorine.
Keep in mind that just because the pool water looks clean, doesn’t necessarily mean it is. Waterborne bacteria are invisible to the naked eye. That doesn’t mean that just because the water doesn’t look dirty is that you don’t clean it until algae has taken over. Swimming pools require regular and almost constant care.
How do you assure your pool water is clean and healthy enough to swim in?
- The chemistry is tested by a water test kit. If chemical balances aren’t correct, bacteria can quickly grow. You need to understand what the readings on the test strips are and which chemicals to add to bring the chemistry back in balance. If you have too many chemicals you can suffer red, itchy eyes and dry skin. If you have too few chemicals, you run the risk of bacteria growth — it’s a delicate balancing act.
- A pool cover will keep air borne contaminants out of the water.
- Ask guests to shower before they jump into the pool to keep organic materials out of the pool water.
- Work with an experienced swimming pool service contractor to keep your pool water crystal clear and bacteria free and always swimmable!
